Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the virtual tour page of the Ridgewood Cooperative Nursery School. Under normal circumstances, after speaking with you on the phone, or exchanging emails about our program, we would be scheduling a date and time for you and your child to come in for a tour. That is, by far, the ideal way for you to get a feel for our school and our program. If you were visiting us between 9:00 am -2:00 pm, you would be able to see the children in the preschool classes, lunch and play program, or one of the many enrichment classes. You would experience the teachers actively engaging with our students. You would see children singing in music class, listening to a story in our library, or attempting an obstacle course in a gym class. Unfortunately, our school, like other preschools in Bergen County, had to close our program once the risk of the spread of Covid-19 became a frightening reality.
At this time, we know that we will be closed until at least April 30th and quite possibly later. In fact, we are unsure if we will be opening again before this school year is over. In the meantime, we continue to follow all the appropriate State and Local recommendations regarding school closure and social distancing. Each one of our teachers from the Toddler & Me class up to our Pre-K class have uploaded class curriculum to our website for our parents and children to begin distance learning. Obviously, this cannot take the place of the classroom experience. Because of this global pandemic, we are clearly in uncharted territory, but our teachers have done a marvelous job of reaching out to their students through daily classes on our website, Zoom meetings with their classes, Marco Polo app, individual FaceTime calls, and emailing with families. Our school is small, with only about 70 families enrolled, but it has always felt more like extended family than a school. Because of that, we are making sure the children have a sense of consistency by seeing their teachers and their friends (virtually of course) during this uncertain time.
These videos were put together by me very quickly when I stopped into school to pick up mail this week. Of course, once I was done filming, I immediately thought of at least 10 other things I wanted to say! Needless to say, this is not the ideal way to see our school, but I hope that the videos can at least give you a sense of the space and our bright lovely classrooms. I hope this helps you in your search for a preschool for your child. We know what an important decision that is. I encourage you watch the video, scroll through the pages on our website, and then call me or email me so that we can continue a more comprehensive discussion about why the Ridgewood Co-Op would be a wonderful choice for your family.
I look forward to talking with you and to giving you an in-person tour sometime in the future!
Director, Ridgewood Co-Op
